Introduction
The RTL-SDR can conveniently be used to check both VHF Air & VHF Marine weather. Figure 1 shows the receive schematic. Recently a significant cyber security outage affected millions of Windows computers all around the world. I offer two simple solutions that can be easily applied before more outages happen.
Receive Block Diagram
Figure 1 shows the receive block diagram. Using SDR#, you can rapidly switch from receiving VHF Air AM weather to VHF Marine FM weather. Figure 2 shows the VHF Air settings and Figure 3 shows the VHF Marine settings.
Windows Cyber Security
The recent Windows outage that affected millions of computers world wide reminded me of blue screen problems I have run into over the years with SDR hardware drivers. One solution I have used many times is to make a System Restore Point, which can be used in case your Windows system Freezes. You boot the computer in safe mode or into recovery options and use the system restore point to reset your system to a know stable configuration. Another option is to create a dual boot system with Linux on a separate partition in case Windows is beyond recovery.
