Scilab and ScicosLab are Open Source Math Programs that can be used in various engineering and scientific applications. In this post I look at how ScicosLab can be used to calculate the Great Circle Distance and Bearings between any two points on a sphere. In particular I will calculate the GCD/Bearings between the Time Station Transmitter CHU located in Ottawa Canada and a Receiver in Toronto Canada. The Bearings will be used to optimize the receiver Loop Antenna.
